The Sky Room Amphitheater at Campus Park has been recognized for its outstanding architectural design by the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and the Thornburg Foundation, and received the first prize of Contemporary architecture in the Southwest.

This award recognizes architecture from the Four Corners States that expands the definition of Southwestern architecture.

“In designing Campus Park’s Sky Room with architect McClain + Yu, our goal was to create an iconic structure that would uniquely characterize Rio Rancho as a community with its own cultural identity,” said Mayor of Rio Rancho. , Gregg Hull, in a statement. “We are honored to have our city’s park and amphitheater recognized as a regional work of art.”

Campus Park is a multi-purpose outdoor community gathering space that serves as a hub of activity in the downtown area.

On a day-to-day basis, the six-acre park is a destination for students, downtown workers and Rio Rancho residents.

Campus Park’s Sky Room Amphitheater is the heart of the space and a signature architectural structure that doubles as a work of art and is home to concerts and city events. This project would not have been possible without the contributions of community members, city staff, the City of Rio Rancho Arts Commission, and collaborators such as UNM Health Sciences, Hewlett-Packard, Team design, the contractor and all sub-contractors from landscaping to drilling to roofing to plumbing and heating.
