James Brenner Sculpture Hosts Transformational Iron Casting Event in Partnership with Art Is My Weapon, CAFAC and HNIA | New

MINNEAPOLIS, October 19, 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – James Brenner Sculpture, in partnership with the Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association (HNIA), Art Is My Weapon, and Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center (CAFAC), are hosting an annual cast-iron event this fall at the Water Basin, 22nd Ave NE and Quincy Street NE in Minneapolis.

The goal of this annual event is transformation and change: what should we give up and what should we embrace as a community and as individuals? During the event, deactivated weapons are melted down and turned into shovels for tree planting. Prior to this event, these partners hosted a workshop for families affected by gun violence, where family members made personally important shovel components to sink. Once designed and cast, these shovels will be united with family members who will use them to plant memorial trees for loved ones at sites of their choice. Heart-shaped plaques will be cast to be installed near the remembrance trees. The molten metal poured into the core molds will glow at dusk, slowly fading as they solidify.

During the 2021 Cast Iron event, there will be community speakers on the theme of transformation and change, an opportunity for the audience to interact by writing intentions on flash paper that has been placed in molds and lit by molten metal, a graffiti wall painting by Peyton Scott Russell and fellow artists, and the MN Nice Cream ice cream truck (6.30 am to 8.30 am).
